The Art Gallery at Congdon Yards (TAG) plans a series of engaging workshops and a dedicated homeschool class designed to foster artistic exploration among the youth in the community.

TAG is excited to announce the following upcoming programs:

  • Homeschool Art Class – Asian Art and Printmaking
    Thursdays, Oct. 26, Nov. 2, 9, & 16 from 1 to 4 p.m. for ages 5 – 12
    Cost: $125 TAG members and $140 non-members
    The theme for this four-week course is “Asian Art and Printmaking.” Students will have hands-on experience drawing and printing while learning about Asian artists and their culture. A small art show will be held on the last day of class. Space is limited.
  • Make and Take Saturdays, Oct. 28 and Dec. 9 from 10 a.m. to noon (limited to 15 participants
    Saturday, Nov. 18 from 9 to 11 a.m. (limited to 10 participants)
    Cost: $15 per child
    Join TAG for a festive and creative holiday workshop designed for young artists aged 5-12. A variety of projects will be offered for creation. An opportunity for children to explore their artistic talents and create wonderful works of art.
  • Text Me Series
    Through a generous grant from the Arts Council of Greater Greensboro, TAG is hosting our “Text Me” series combining the written word with visual design. Authors, poets, and playwrights in the community will hold a workshop about their vocation with a follow-up session focusing on printing designs based on these different themes.
  • Theatre: From Thought to Spectacle
    Saturday, Oct. 28 from 1 to 3 p.m. for ages 14-17
    Cost: Free – registration required
    Playwrights Peter Turner and Debra Kaufman will share their insights on creating characters in conflict, playwriting structure, and other playwriting basics, such as writing compelling dialogue and concise stage directions. Jonathan Crow, managing director of Triad Playwrights Theatre, will discuss ways to create posters for a new play. In this interactive session, attendees will have an opportunity to write a dialogue and/or sketch a stage set or poster, with optional sharing of their work. The class is limited to 20 participants. Snacks and water will be provided. 
  • Text Me Series: Screenprinting
    Saturday, Nov. 4 from 1 to 3 p.m. for ages 14-17
    Cost: Free – registration required
    Participants will watch a screenprinting demo from Peter Daye with Cut The Music Prints and will have an opportunity to design their own image to print based on the previous week’s playwright session. Everyone will get to take their print home with them on either a t-shirt or bag. You do not have to attend the playwright session in order to register for this screenprint workshop.  We will review the themes discussed to help create your graphic design.
  • Slab Clay Creatures
    Thursday, Nov. 2 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. ages 9 and up
    Cost: $45 TAG members and $55 non-members
    Students will learn about the slab technique and will watch a
    demonstration of how to make a decorative turkey with an opportunity to create an animal of their choice. After pieces have dried and been fired in the kiln, students will come back on Wednesday, Nov. 15 to add color to their creations with glaze or paint.

These workshops and classes are designed to ignite the passion for art, encourage self-expression and nurture the artistic talents of local youth.
