Step into a world of color, texture, and imagination! Curated with curiosity and joy, this exhibition honors High Point's textile legacy while showcasing contemporary fiber artists who turn play (and hard work!) into powerful art.

Featuring the art of Cat Babbie, Barbara Campbell Thomas, Caitlin Cary, Paige Cox, Ian Dennis, Terri Dowell-Dennis, and Patrizia Ferreira.
Open May 15 - June 27, 2025

The Art Gallery at Congdon Yards (TAG) is proud to present its latest exhibition, Needle & Thread: Contemporary Textiles at Play, a vibrant celebration of fiber art that honors both the gallery’s historic setting and High Point’s rich textile legacy. The exhibition features the work of Cat Babbie, Barbara Campbell Thomas, Caitlin Cary, Paige Cox, Ian Dennis, Terri Dowell-Dennis, and Patrizia Ferreira.

Located within the revitalized Congdon Yards—formerly Plant 7 and The Factory of the historic Adams-Millis Hosiery Mill—TAG stands on ground that played a pivotal role in North Carolina’s textile industry. This legacy provides a fitting backdrop for an exhibition that brings together some of the state’s most dynamic fiber artists.

Drawing inspiration from TAG’s central location in downtown High Point—surrounded by landmarks like the Rockers Stadium, The Commons, and Visit High Point—Needle & Thread explores how artists use playfulness as both a concept and a process. Curated with a sense of wonder and whimsy, the exhibition invites visitors to engage with textiles in unexpected and delightful ways.

The exhibition opens on May 15 and will be on view through June 27. An opening reception will take place on May 15 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., offering attendees the chance to meet the artists, view the collection, and celebrate the power of contemporary textile art. The reception is free and open to the public.

“Fiber art is having a moment in the contemporary art world,” says curator Kathryn Drum. “Given the history of High Point and Congdon Yards, a show featuring North Carolina-based textile artists felt like a natural fit. TAG’s emphasis on education—and the many student and youth visitors we welcome—inspired us to showcase thoughtful, conceptual work in a way that remains engaging and accessible for all ages. Exploring themes of play and playfulness has been a joyful experience, and we believe visitors will feel that energy throughout the exhibition.”
