TAG presents an intimate exhibit, “Vesseling”, by Durham-based artist David Roswell. Using locally-dug wild clay and created in the weeks before and after his mother’s death, these vessels act as containers for grief. In his book, In the Absence of the Ordinary, Francis Weller compares grief’s need for containment to fermentation and alchemy. Grievers, he suggests, need time and space to process, to gather with loved ones, to collect memories, and to be transformed. “The work of the vessel,” he writes, “is both to contain and to further the material.”
The exhibition opens November 19, 2026 and will be on view through January 2, 2027.
